Ponder… Writer’s Block?
I’ve had many blog ideas recently but all seemed to flow for a little and then fall flat And it’s the same with the second book I’m writing. So I stopped writing; those reading who know my love for putting pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard, will understand what a big thing it is for me to put pen or keyboard down.
It wasn’t easy and I have been itching like anything to pick it back up, even though it has only been a few weeks. I pushed past the desire to pen and waited a little longer and in the wait I pondered…
Why is writing suddenly not the release it once was?
Why does it suddenly feel like a ‘must do’ rather than a ‘want to do’?
Listening to a 30 second devotional, sent to me by a friend, I realised what was going on; I was no longer writing from a place of waiting on and resting in Jesus, as I once did. I was writing for me, to get things off my chest, to complain about society and how backwards it is; rather than doing what Jesus has called me to do with the gift He has given me, to encourage, motivate, inspire and equip through pen and keyboard. I had neglected resting in God, relying on Him as my constant sustainer in life. I had lost sight of His path for the pen and paper and had begun to forge my own path.
30 seconds is all it took for me to realise I had been swayed from the path Jesus had put me on, but I couldn’t tell the timing of when I was swayed; maybe it was when my knee snapped, or it could have been the second I decided to delete 15000 words I had written for my book and start again without a second thought. It also could have been when we didn’t feel heard in regards to our son’s schooling needs. The point is something happened that turned my eyed off Jesus and onto myself.
Four points really grabbed my attention in this devotional…
Jesus is our constant companion
He sustains us
He does not want us to lose sight of Him
He wants us to rest in Him
Then I found myself lost in scripture…
’Jesus Christ is [eternally changeless, always] the same yesterday and today and forever.’
Hebrews 13:8 AMP
ALWAYS!
We can tell someone we will love them ‘always’ but the truth of that love is that it will not always be consistent.
Always with Jesus is exactly that, ALWAYS!
Always good!
Always loving!
Always all-powerful!
Always consistent and unchanging!
His companionship in life is an ALWAYS companionship!
Always with us and always for us.
’The Lord is my strength and my song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.’
Exodus 15:2 AMP
When we lean on Jesus, He becomes our strength, sustaining us in and through every season of our lives. How good and faithful He is to us!
‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. Just consider and meditate on Him who endured from sinners such bitter hostility against Himself [consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.’
Hebrews 12:1-3 AMP
Look upon Jesus, focus your eyes on Him, meditate on His word and then the path He has for you will become clear. On the wobbly days; let’s persevere, continue forward, looking at Him so that we will not be swayed off the path He has for us.
I don’t want to be swayed again.
I want to continue on in Hs will for my life, His path for the pen and paper He has placed in my hands so that I can bring Glory to His name. He who gave it all for me!
‘Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.’

Jesus is there for you; an always companion and sustainer, whatever life throws your way, whatever season you find yourself in.
He is with you always!
So join with me in fixing your eyes on Him and resting in His wonderful embrace.
Below are a couple of poems written after watching the devotional by Zach Windahl
Remember I am penned in love and so are you!
